Enye Turns One

Cebu’s award-winning Spanish restaurant, Enye recently turned one. After missing several invites, I was finally able to visit for their one year anniversary. The celebration started with some sangria, cocktails and tapas while being serenaded by live music to set the mood. The red sangria and chorizo croquetas were an instant favorite. The simple anniversary celebration was attended by members of the press, bloggers and select guests.

Lunch is served!

We started our lunch with some tapas to share. Everyone was excited for Lechon Cebu Tacos and it did not disappoint. The tasty Lechon Cebu was served on soft tortilla with mango salsa, jalapeno frijoles mousse and sour cream. It was a feast of flavors in my mouth that left my taste buds really satisfied.

We also had Gambas al Alijo, Pulpo a la Gallega, Txangurro and Ensalada de Tomates Cherry Ricotta Casera.

For the first course, we had Arroz con Bogavante, a stewed lobster paella. For the mains, the Solomillo a la Espanola was a runaway winner for me. Tenderloin with grilled machego cheese, rioja wine jus and mushroom mashed potatoes, everything just melts in my mouth. The machego cheese added an extra texture and creaminess to this dish. Cheese makes everything taste better right? We also had Atun a la Parilla, a pan seared tuna served with smoked eggplant and citrus romesco sauce.

Of course, there’s always a room for dessert. We had Tarta de Chocolate y Helado de Vainilla, Mango Especiado and Texturas de Calamansi. I love the selection of desserts that were served because we had something chocolatey and fruity. The Texturas de Calamansi was also a perfect dessert to cleanse the palate.

Enye has been recognized as the Best New Restaurant of 2018 and is part of the Top 20 Best Restaurants identified by Philippinte Tatler Dining.

Chele Gonzalez who curated the menu joined the festivity and shared his enthusiasm for the Cebuano’s support to his craft and for accepting his cuisine, all too well, in Cebu’s growing appetite for quality and authentic dining destinations.

The name Enye is inspired by the Spanish letter Ñ, which is part of both the Filipino and Spanish alphabet, signifying the lasting influence of the Spanish culture in our culture up to this day. With the shared history and commonality of the two cultures, Enye’s food and beverage selection provides flavor profiles that are very familiar to the palate and serves authentic and contemporary Spanish cuisine focused on the different diversities of food in Spain.
