The celebration started with the lighting of firecrackers. In Chinese customs, the sound of the firecrackers is believed to chase away evil spirits. The Eye-Dotting ceremony was also performed then followed by the Lion and Dragon Dance. A Lunar New Year celebration is not complete without the Yee Sang Toss or Prosperity Toss. It’s a Chinese custom where different ingredients are mixed and tossed together for prosperity.
