Last February 8, 2016, Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa welcomed the Year of the Fire Monkey with traditional Lunar New Year customs, and of course, a feast on Chinese food.
The celebration started with the lighting of firecrackers. In Chinese customs, the sound of the firecrackers is believed to chase away evil spirits. The Eye-Dotting ceremony was also performed then followed by the Lion and Dragon Dance. A Lunar New Year celebration is not complete without the Yee Sang Toss or Prosperity Toss. It’s a Chinese custom where different ingredients are mixed and tossed together for prosperity.
The highlight of Lunar New Year celebration is the Chinese food that was served at the resort’s Chinese restaurant, Tea of Spring. Chef Bun Boon Hoe has prepared delectable Chinese specialties for the guests for this special occasion.
